Unwinding

One of the things we had to do to pull off the exfiltration of Southern Belle and family was shuffle our vehicles.

Mrs ERJ does not trust Vinnie Van Gogh (her minivan) because he had been identifying as Vinnie Van NoGogh. None of our other vehicles could hold two adults and a car-seat.

So, we borrowed an Impala from my sister. We returned the loaner car today.

That is, we unwound the shuffle.

Residency

Southern Belle is not one to let grass grow beneath her feet.

She went to the Secretary of State and both she and Handsome Hombre got Michigan driver's licenses. The plates will take a little longer because her vehicle had a "salvage" title and Michigan requires a safety inspection before plating them.

Strawberries

170 strawberry plants into the ground today. I planted them beneath the "power feed" to the electric fence where tall vegetation would be a problem.

Mowing

Tomorrow will be a mowing day and a seek-and-destroy for undesirable plants.

Friday afternoon will be tilling the garden, God willing.

Hercules' Grave

Hercules was Belladonna's German Shepherd. He died last year. This is his grave. The daffodils should thicken up and make an excellent display next year.

Homicide Death-rate among Black men

Death-rate per 100,000 per year. The three cohorts (15 years total) that is circled comprise 46% of the Black men whose deaths are ruled homicides

If one makes the conceptual leap that perpetrators are likely to be of the same demographic, including age, then the fifteen year span between ages 20-and-34 commit a disproportionate share of homicides. That cohort contains 46% of the homicide victims. Including the bins to either side bumps it up to 66%.

The curve after age twenty exhibits an almost perfect ski-jump or exponential decay.

  1. You can say all you want with charts and statistics, but for some reason 'polite society' has chosen to ignore the 800 lb gorrilla in the corner drinking his tea.
I like metaphors. The 'ol 'picture worth 1000 words'. The pendulum is swinging very wide on this turn to the left. Wonder how far to the right it will swing on its way back?

  2. I had the WORST luck with something eating and removing strawberry plants from my bed. What it didn't mow down it pulled up and flung out. Gave up on em. Shame, I have the room and the sun...

  3. The death rate is compounded by the fact the victim and perpetrator are very often the same race. So two families are thrown in turmoil. Not to mention the inevitable retribution that is done to avenge the act.

That chart is depressing. I don't see why gang membership isn't seen as voluntary self destruction. The older generation isn't teaching the young how to stay on the path. By the time the recently released incarcerated discover that nobody will trust them any more and offer opportunities, a life of future crime will likely happen
