Random pictures from the garden

Beet seedlings. Merlin on the right. Carillon on the left.

Romaine lettuce. Jericho variety

Potatoes pushing up through the surface. According to my trusty blog, they went into the ground April 16ish.

A double-row of onions

Pawpaw flowers

The lilacs are just starting to open...just in time for Mother's Day.

There is still a lot of empty dirt in the garden. Better than weeds growing, I suppose.

  1. I have taken to applying crimson clover seed as a cover crop between my rows. Yes it will get walked on. Don't care if it blooms.
Theory is: weed seeds will blow into the open dirt wether I want them to or not. There theu will germinate and need to be removed. If I plant a thick cover of clover, it will prevent the weed seeds from landing or starting. Clover gets killed, trampled, and tilled under in the fall. Nitrogen. I'm out 20 bucks.
