I have been working, so you get rambling discourse instead of organized thoughts

I am still pecking away at the garden.

I watered the approximately 500 hills of potatoes starting at 7 this morning. My best-guess is that each hill got between 1/2 and 3/4 of a gallon. I want to spend some more time out there with the weed-whacker to knock-down the rye that refused to die.

I built a structure to drop support strings down for the Carmello and Orange Icicle tomatoes. Those are the two taller varieties. I will weave the Stupice through feedlot panels for support.

I planted some Hickory King corn as an add-on to the tortilla-corn plot. Hickory King is notable for large kernels that are easy to process for hominy. Also notable for very tall, leafy plants which suggests that the stover could be useful as feed for cows.

The weather took a temporary turn to the cooler side. HH used to watch the weather in Miami to see if it would rain at 12:30 or 1:30, to see if the high would be 82 or 88F. The weather in Michigan, this time of year, has much wider excursions in temperature.

We are also looking at the dry spell extending. We got about 1/4" of rain in the last 24 hours with no more predicted for the next 10 days. My cows should be swimming in grass this time of year but that is NOT happening.

We have Orioles hitting the hummingbird feeders. They say "Orange is the new 'Black'." Looking at how Trump has been treated by the press, I must say that the saying has some validity.

  1. Hickory King is a great corn. I used to grow that when growing the 3 Sisters.
As I recall (this was pre-internet) it was considered a multi purpose corn. It was certainly good roasted. The animals loved it too.

  2. Our potatoes are not doing so well. Planted in February we were off to a good start but the excess rain and general damp conditions allowed the dreaded mildew to establish itself. In spite of spraying fungicide, we are a definite second place in this contest.

  3. I also lost most of my taters this year!
Supposed to be a strong El Nino setting up this year, may impact weather up your way. We're supposed to be colder and wetter here in ETN.

Even though these are the most fundamental internet operations tasks, you may start bs-06 making a respectable online income with as little as $29,000.
