Graham's Paradox

If you buy your sweetheart a half dozen roses you are a skinflint.  And that is bad.
If you buy your sweetheart a dozen roses then you must have done something that makes you feel guilty.  And that is bad.

But if you buy a single, long stem rose...that is romantic.  And that is good.

I first heard this from Ted Graham, which is why I call it Graham's Paradox.

  1. Reminds me of a time when I was dating my gal, and wanted to give her one long-stemmed rose. Went to Wally-World, but they didn't have one long-stemmed rose. I had to buy a dozen. The price was right, though, about half what I would have spent in a florist shop.

So, I picked the best one, and gave the others away to random ladies in the parking lot.
