It all depends on where you are located. In SE Alaska, September and October brought the rain (and snow). Here in Montana, we're finally getting a break in the high temps - but September still has a high risk of wildland fires and we often have snow before the end of October. Makes for a short "autumn". September and October in my youth in SW Michigan were indeed glorious - with squirrel, rabbit and pheasant hunting. And it was definitely apple season!
Yep, that's the first 'break' we usually get in the heat out here!
