In my humble opinion, the two best "starts" to action books can be found in W.E.B. Griffin's "Lieutenants" and in Marco Kloos's "Aftershocks", the first book in the Palladium series.
I have been looking forward to this book's release.
Agree on Lieutenants. For what it is worth, Dad could not read it. He said it was about his life. He was in a guard unit before the war in Manhattan where you had to be the descendent of a revolutionary was soldier to be in it. Most were investment bankers. Had a story about one of the sergeants writing a check for a restaurant that refused to feed enlisted soldiers. Just reread "Colonels". It is as if I can touch Dad by reading them. He passes 25 years ago.
