When good men surrender their weapons

How many readers remember this scene with the famous, 8-shot, .44 Magnum revolver? It occurred close to the beginning of the movie 48 Hours. The detective coming down the stairs has been wounded. The two men holding hostages are genuine bad-asses.

The character played by Nick Nolte is faced with a tough choice.

How many folks, reading of Portland and Seattle surrendering their police stations to the Marxists had this scene play through their heads?

  1. I've never understood this scene in countless movies. "Get rid of the gun or somebody gets it". Response from good guy should be "NO!" Reasoning is; the bad guy can't risk killing the hostage because then they have NO hostage and NO shield. Never give up your weapon in these circumstances. Just shoot the SOB in the head. If you can't hit a plate size target at 10 feet you shouldn't have a weapon anyway. I understand stress and control problems in that situation, but the alternative is always worse. And yes, I've thought this through and would do this even if the hostage was my wife/child/mother! I see no other way through this.

  2. Classic how women mess up battle field. He choose to save the woman over the men. I remember in enterprise alabama in the 90's there was a hostage situation at bealls. The cops decided the woman hostage was not getting in car with bad guy. They missed. Cops killed woman. If I remember Brian Lolley was police chief. He lost his job. And bealls never reopened. Another example of why Muslims have the advantage by restricting woman in public. No?

  3. I remember the 1980's film 'Shoot to Kill' starring Sydney Poitier as an FBI agent in pursuit of a bad guy. Near the end of the film, the bad guy takes a female hostage and threatens to shoot her if Poitier doesn't drop his gun. In response, Poitier shouts: Let. Her. Go. Or. DIE !!! I went, Yes! Finally, instead of dropping his gun, which no cop would do in real life, the good guy tells the perp in no uncertain terms - hurt her and you DIE.
