Signal-to-noise

"Everything that is not mandatory is forbidden"

I have been quiet lately.

We live in a period with a low signal-to-noise ratio and I am trying to not make it worse.

Knowing when to keep your mouth shut and having the self-discipline to do it is a prime marker of adulthood.

Assess what is under your control and what you can strongly influence.

Renew personal connections with neighbors and family and local small businesses.

One possible trajectory involves the "economy" splitting into two components. One is the official, above-ground economy and the other is the under-ground economy.

The under-ground economy resembles the economy during the feudal system when contracts were a man's word and hand-shake and his neighbor's opinion of his character was his bank account.

This might be a good time to invest in "Character Equity".

  1. The underground economy has always ben there. Ask the marijuana guys. Or the alcohol bootleggers. Or, common businessmen who might not fully document sales. We've all been in situations where the cash price is different than the credit-card price.

  2. The modern geeks are attacking the problem and showing all of the fraud. They hammered it so hard that their noise is the signal. They're loosing and they know it.
