It is soup weather and has been for the last six weeks or so.
This Sunday we started a pot of bean soup on the stove. A couple pounds of navy beans, smoked sausage, sauteed onion and garlic and shredded carrot, black pepper, sage, chicken bouillon for salt.
It should last us until next weekend, stretching out sandwiches, rolls, salads and dinners.
And that's exactly the way to live frugally.

It is also extremely convenient.
DeleteA bowl of soup, a couple of sandwiches, some fruit or a few carrot sticks on the side. Something to drink.
It is very fast, easy and satisfies my hunger. It can be hard to get motivated to cook complicated meals when it is just the two of us at home.
Nice. The Mrs. loves her ham and beans.
ReplyDeleteSoup weather coming for all of us…
ReplyDeleteLast night’s dinner for five: two cups rice, broccoli and red peppers frozen from the garden, onions and garlic same.
ReplyDeleteTotal cost = 2 cups of rice from buckets in the basement and garden labor.
I love bean soups with sausage. My tweak is to leave the smoked sausage out, brown it in the skillet just before serving, and then add it. The browning adds a nice flavor touch.
