Some pictures of local fields taken this morning

Many bare patches in this corn field. Some seeds germinated. Many did not.

The tallest corn in this field is 8" tall

Soybeans

Same field, different angle.

The deer are really hammering the soybeans. Soybeans are prime browse for deer this time of year and when the plants are this small, one hungry doe can take out a huge number of plants.

Ironically, this low spot has a bumper crop of tadpoles.

  2. It looks like that here in the UP also. Get ready to loose some extra weight and be slim and trim. Are those tadpoles any good to eat? Might want to try, you never can tell. Might come in handy..---ken

  3. Reading some of my family's diaries written during the depression fish traps for bait often WERE Feeding the family. A lot of bait fish breaded up and fried was better than plan corn mush again.

  4. I am about 100 miles south of Eaton Rapids, and we are looking better. We received some rain last week that helped. About 1.7 in.
We are still dry but better than your area..

  5. We've just had three straight days of rain here in the upstate of SC. I'll find out how many inches when I go to work tomorrow morning.
