Today disappeared quickly.
I went over to Sprite's and sprayed Canadian Thistles and nettles. I was wearing shorts and my legs were brushed by the seed-heads of various grasses, including Orchard Grass.
They were not throwing pollen yet because they were covered with dew. BUT...the contact was enough to cover my legs with dermatitis. The irritation and swelling is almost instantaneous.
I wiped my legs down with a damp paper towel and then applied Benadryl gel. I also took two, 25mg capsules of the stuff.
The pills of enstupidation.
I made it through Sunday Mass without nodding off.
Once home, I hit the rack for a nap.
Sunday was a day-of-rest, whether I wanted it that way or not.
That'll teach you to wear short pants! I don't care how hot it is, long pants and if outside like you're talking about it's mini-bungees on the ankles to keep ticks out. SPF 50 on the top half should finish your preps for outside work even if you look like a cranky old man.
ReplyDeleteHmppppfffff. PP over at the Smallhold was griping about Canadian Thistles. I live in Alberta and I dunno if we have them here or not… I suppose I better do a google and find out! I am not about to take any guff off them…I have a gas powered weed whacker and I’m not afraid to use it… when I see weeds I chew them right down to the dirt and show no mercy…
ReplyDeleteHrrmmmm… apparently we DO have it; are you swelling up because of allergies Joe? As kids we would have been right in the thick of it and I don’t remember us swelling up because of it…? But whadda I know? I am an old fossil that can’t remember what he ate for breakfast…😂👍
DeleteYou were spraying in shorts?
ReplyDeleteSeriously?
Yup. I was.
DeleteLow pressure. Jet rather than spray-cone. Stand 4' away and let her rip. I can spray plants out to 15'.
Early morning. Very little wind. Low pressure means there is very little small-droplet mist.
so less bad....Still not good.
DeleteER Joe you NEED TO BE CAREFUL.
ReplyDeleteI hope and pray you were not alone while you were working.
Annoying allergies that cause near instant skin dermatitis is a WONDERFUL Way to be down for the count with Anaphylaxis.
Then you can be known as Emergency Room Joe.
God gives wisdom, sometimes we just need to pay attention. Pain and allergic reactions are hints, don't DO THAT.
I agree that shorts are not acceptable when working in the yard and garden. Too many opportunities for injury that would have been eliminated or minimized by trousers or jeans, including contact dermatitis.
ReplyDelete!?! Shorts? Around here if I am working in the tall grass and the dew is on I wear my 5 buckles over my boots w/pants bloused. If it is dry depending on which boots I have on pants are either bloused or cuffs sealed to boot with cheap duct tape. I use regular Listerine in a spray bottle to keep the bag bugs at bay. The ticks around here don't crawl up your leg, they walk up, unzip your pants, and fondle you to see if you're tender enough for them.
