The Michigan Senate passed a bill SB4 that has been touted as a great victory for the LGBTETCANDSOONANDSOFORTH community.
"...to prohibit discriminatory practices, policies, and customs in the exercise of those rights based upon religion, race, color, national origin, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, height, weight..."
"The opportunity to obtain employment, housing and other real estate, and the full and equal utilization of public accommodations, public service, and educational facilities without discrimination because of religion, race, color, national origin, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression..."
New language in bold.
Deeper in the text of the bill:
"Sexual orientation" means having an orientation for heterosexuality, homosexuality, or bisexuality or having a history of such an orientation or being identified with such an orientation."
Do you suppose that LBGTETC... are given preference for entry into advanced degrees in the social sciences and professions like law and medicine and Boards of Directors for certain kinds of organizations? If I am reading this correctly, then a heterosexual who has been passed over because he isn't vibrant or flamboyant enough has cause to sue.

ReplyDeleteAs a wise man pointed out to me, without a religious exemption it will quickly run into issues when they mandate that the Catholic Church ordain lesbians and ditto for Muslim imams. It either get struck-down at the state Supreme Court level (not likely) or move through Federal Court.
DeleteWe're almost at the point where everybody is a protected class... The problem is that in practice some people will be favored by the system, it could become more a question of who has the money to sue than anything else.
