From-scratch chocolate cake
Southern Belle was looking at the back of the can of cocoa powder in the spice cupboard. "You know, I heard rave reviews about this cake and frosting recipe" she said.
Guess we will find out. Home-made, from scratch chocolate cake and frosting for dessert tonight.
Sure am glad I gave up single-malt scotch and durian-and-sardine pickles for Lent. It would be a darned shame if I had to disappoint SB.
That's definitely a pretty cake. I do love me some home made baked goods. Let us know how it tastes. I told my wife years ago that I could taste the love in her cooking and that it was her secret ingredient that nobody could copy. I wish I had a dime for every time I've given away a pair of decent britches that had shrunk an astonishing amount... π
."..I could taste the love in her cooking and it was her secret ingredient that nobody could copy." That is brilliant Fred. I gotta remember that next time I come across another old tractor or some other thing I don't need but want to buy. ---ken

Start by making a chocolate "pudding." Melt your chocolate and cocoa powder in hot water to dissolve the cocoa powder. Then add the sugar to pull the water out and force the cocoa into the fats in the chocolate. This intensifies the chocolate flavor. Then add the rest of your ingredients and bake.

DeleteYeah... They respond to it. Your waistline will also respond. You've been warned...
DeleteWhen someone asks me what I gave up for Lent I always reply "Self control."

We are going to freeze half of it so it does not disappear in one sitting and so we don't always get belly aches.
ReplyDeleteSouthern Belle made a slight adjustment to the frosting recipe. She reduced the sugar to make it semi-sweet frosting.
Double yummy!

ERJ, we appreciate you sacrificing yourself for the greater glory of the Empire.
ReplyDeleteTo quote Lord Farquaad from the movie Shrek "...it is a sacrifice I am willing to make."
DeleteI have never had durian pickles. Sour and stinky would be an unusual flavor combo.

There are some good blended scotches out there. Just sayin'.
