In hindsight, the Spanish Civil War (1936-to-1939) was seen as the warm-up band for World War II.
Weapons and strategies were tested and refined. Alliances were forged.
I wonder if the Ukrainian/Russian conflict well be seen the same way, assuming that enough civilization survives to stitch together a coherent "history".
WWIV will be fought with sticks and stones.
I kind of doubt it, back then nations like the USA had domestic industry that could be turned into war time production.

ReplyDeleteI think one of the interesting things about the Spanish Civil War was the consciousness on the parts of some parties (Germany comes to mind) that this really was a "field test" of tactics and equipment.

He is GOD, this event comes AFTER His Kingdom is established.
Well, if you exchange tech advances then for information now, I suppose there are similarities.

OTOH, can info even hope to compete with men and material on the field?
Assumed is competition, one mean favored over the other. I reckon instead it is the new supporting, not supplanting the old.

Delete"Perfect" information does not have infinite value.
You can know to the inch where your enemy is but if you do not have the means to act upon it then it is of no value.
On the other hand you might know to within 20 miles and a +/- half-hour window where your enemy's most gifted general or admiral will be and if you have the means, can change the course of a war.

I suspect a lot of the most “jingoist” about ukraine/ russia dont understand how fragile our civilizations are. We have no control over what the other guy will do. Our doctrine in the 70’s was MAD (mutual assured destruction) where we counted on the soviets and us both believing nuclear war was unwinnable and would destroy us all. During that period there were folks on both sides who believed a nuclear war was winnable or at least survivable but they didn't have the final say. When you hear someone say “ the Russians wont use nuclear weapons, they know there would be consequences” step away from them, they are dangerously stupid. Half the time, I dont know what my wife is going to do next, how can I assume what an opponent will do
