This and that

The attempt to root some MM-106 was a dud. They were too moist and molded. Nothing venture, nothing gained.

Sculpture in public places

This particular dynamic-sculpture is above the lounge for surgery admissions at U-of-M (E. W. Sparrow) Hospital in Lansing. It is dedicated to the lawyers who specialize in malpractice torts and is titled "Post Nasal Drip". Who said that there was no professional courtesy shared between the medical and the legal professions?

My brother had a procedure today and I kept my sister-in-law company for three hours.

Okra seeds

I started the Okra seeds today. I hope I have better luck with them than I did with the MM-106.

  1. Okra is tropical... Warm is the word.

  2. A heating pad for the seeds and seedlings. Keep damp with mister as to prevent mold and wilt. Same sort of thing I do with my tomatoes in New England.

  3. Okra is just plain gross (to me) but has lovely flowers. M-1 Carbine is my farm gun. I carry when we are having predation. I broke the stock on my 1943 Postal Meter and replaced it with a synthetic stock with a full pistol grip. What a massive improvement in handling and accuracy! Still looking for an affordable 1943/44 stock for it though.

  4. Re: mildew on seedling

We’ve had good results using diluted hydrogen peroxide mist to kill mildew and mold on starts. A 50/50 mix seems to work well, usually a single application kills the offending spores without ill effect to seedlings.

  5. This may not be entirely germane to the topic but I just would like to know how much money the government is saving in social security costs by killing off millions of senior citizens? Has anyone done an analysis of this or is this verboten ?

    1. .GOV does not care about saving money. All they care about is graft, corruption and insider trading.

The entire covid response was all about money and power.

    2. Anon mouse they DO Care about money as in MORE MONEY and Power for THEM.

There was an internet meme about COVID being the Boomer Remover. It is VERY HARD to get solid data about % of COVID related deaths on Boomers today.

  6. In most cases the rifles do not have a magazine in place. Bravo to the young ladies and the one gentleman but I do wonder if they have a cartridge in the chamber.

  7. After the Ma'alot massacre of school children in 1974, Israeli schools were hardened, teachers were allowed to be armed, and field trips were accompanied by volunteer civil guards. The M1 carbines were available for civil guards, and did not subtract from ARs, Galils, and Uzis which were needed by IDF forces. Soldiers, male or female, were issued a firearm and required to keep it and two magazines with them at all times, on or off duty. I spent two semesters there in '92. It was more common to see female soldiers on the bus with Uzis than with AR rifles.

Readers who are willing to comment make this a better blog. Civil dialog is a valuable thing.
