Civil War, the movie 2024

Dystopian fantasy written and directed by an Englishman.

A key to making fiction "work" is that the writer must sketch out a canvas or a background in broad-enough strokes in a way that invites the readers/viewers to suspend disbelief. The writer must present a stream of vignettes that the reader/viewer can say "Yes, I have seen that." or "Yes, I have had those kinds of thoughts."

The premise of this movie is that the Deep State suddenly becomes butt-hurt when the US Constitution is violated, ostensibly because a POTUS is illegally serving a third term.

If that were possible, then why didn't we hear a peep out of them when Obama ran his meat-puppet to provide a thin veneer for HIS third-term.

The other premise that makes this movie a NO-GO for me is that the protagonists are journalists with courage and integrity. A compelling theme for people in media but not for those of us who watched media gleefully do the bidding of evil people. Brave journalists? Silicon-based unicorns that defy the Three Laws of Thermodynamics and quote Shakespeare are more believable.

Yeah. I am going to give this movie a hard-pass.

  1. Be careful Joe. Next you’ll be cheering for the bad guys. I’m not kidding either…years ago I was watching a horrible flick where this fearless coloured SJW girl boss was getting beaten to a bloody green pulp by a burly white racist stubfart that looked suspiciously like Cederq…and I just laughed and cheered him on! 🥴

Of course she eventually beat the stuffing out of him and I was so disappointed I just turned it off and went to play outside…

    1. Yeah, they lost me before the end of the trailer. What's the phrase? Suspending Disbelief? Honest Journalists and California doing anything other than hosting the Communist Chinese? Not Likely.

  4. The last believable movie I saw and enjoyed was "Darby O'Gill and the Little People". ---ken

  5. Several of the things mentioned here show how out of touch some people are.
    Keep that in mind.

    2. While it is presumptuous of me to answer for Jonathan (a valued member of those who comment on this blog), one of the most egregious faux pas is that the writer didn't bother to do much research. If he had, he would have run into Matt Bracken's CWII Cube. (PS: Mr Bracken is a brilliant man).

The likely fragmentation will not be along state lines but primarily along urban/rural lines and within urban areas, along racial/socio-economic lines. Pity the ethnic enclave surrounded by others.

The granularity of CWII's fragmentation will be much finer than CWI. The battle-lines will be much, much longer.

    3. CW II has already started. Rural Eastern Oregon is in the process of exploring becoming attached to Idaho and dissolving their relationship with urban coastal Oregon. More involved than just the liberal/conservative divide. Completely different life views, views on work, views on fiscal management and views on DEI. Almost Roy Rogers cowboy values vs new Hollywood.

    4. As mentioned above, this is an outside (and flawed) perspective on the US.
For example, the idea that Texas and California would work together on much of anything, that mainstream journalists are courageous, brave, or even intelligent, (as mentioned above).
As also mentioned, I don't think think future fighting will be clear cut or clean in any use of the term.
You didn't need me to tell you any of those things...

  6. I would have to agree, I'm a hard pass on this one. These media clowns are paid operatives for the deep state. They pawns who will be discarded as soon as they are no longer useful to their overlords. Notice I did not refer to them a journalist.

  7. I do not think it will be a one side or the other. I see a sniper war. There is no one to trust in any military type group. And if i could trust even my VFW fellows, i would not trust the wives. Woody

    1. This is the scary truth. Even in my neighborhood I would trust some, but not others within the same family. Unfortunately, that means you can't trust any family or couple if you can't trust all within that group. On a similar note, since the supreme court ruled years ago that cops can lie to you, you HAVE to assume everything they tell you is a lie!

  8. Leftist propaganda. Like most movies these days.

  9. Split will be between those who put beans in their chili and those who only use peppers. In the end they will work together to destroy the evil cult that put noodles in chili . Be warned Ohio!

  10. Gerry: I put beans and peppers in my chili; meat is expensive and chili needs some heat in it. I ordered some chili once, unaware it would have noodles in it. An abomination, I say! OTOH, many of us may soon be eating a lot of Hoover Stew due to our reduced circumstances.
