Ignoring the 800 pound gorilla in the room

A large study in Denmark found that transgenders have a seven times greater risk of attempting suicide than people who accepted the gender God gave them at birth. For those who like the minutia, the transgender subjects in the study were 3.5 times (not percent, TIMES) more likely to die due to suicide than the non-transgender subjects.

The SSRI black-box warning regarding suicides were developed due to some (not all, there have been mixed results) studies suggesting that there was an elevated risk of attempting a suicide in the first thirty days starting (and discontinuing) the regimen of that class of antidepressants.

When these types of studies are reported in the popular press, they preface the results with pedantic editorializing. They tell us that LGBT people commit suicide because they are not accepted by society.

That chain of causality seems unnecessarily convoluted to me. Show me the proof.

Isn't rejecting your natal gender a concrete statement that you did not accept yourself?

Isn't suicide the supreme statement of rejection the reality of who you are?

Therapy to develop coping skills and to broaden personal acceptance would likely have better results than genital and hormonal mutilation. But it would be far more difficult to skim the profits from that kind of treatment.

  1. It's just this: the human brain is the most complex object in the known universe. If even a few of the innumerable neurochemicals and/or their receptors are off the organism will experience massive problems, often in a cascading effect. Other hormones contribute as well and if they're off the ones in the skull will be affected as well. Do they really think they can lob off their source of testosterone and pump them full of estrogen without f%cking the whole body up? I'm surprised they don't all get suicidal after that!

  2. Did your literary wanderings speak to suicidality absent gender reassignment (meds)(surgery), compared to after either/both?

    1. No. I really haven't looked for that because my cynicism leads me to believe that academia isn't going to ask questions that might suggest the golden, shiny path is tainted.

I was surprised to find this one. Denmark is not quite as "progressive" as Netherlands and they still sifted through the data and saw what could not be ignored.

I think many of us suspect that the cause is that it is very hard to feel special and loved and cherished in this cold, secular world. Deciding you "were born in the wrong body" promises that. Promises, but does not deliver.

Feeling betrayed by those they trusted most, the guinea pigs hit the silk.

One thing you can say about Christianity is that it tells you that GOD died for you. How could you be more special than that?

Throwing out Christianity for its assumed shortcomings meant that the baby was pitched out with the bathwater.

  3. Therapy sounds best. The therapist, who deeply believes in tranny world, will set you up for forever sessions to cope with the shock, loss and emotional trauma of not getting to whack your Willie off.

  4. Someone I know had a son who never showed any gender confusion until he went to college and started taking antidepressants after a bout of severe depression. This parent believed it was the antidepressant messing with the brain chemistry that caused the gender confusion.

  5. Suicide, self death.
I still have the outline of the book I wanted to write.
First week on the job, parolee takes his wife hostage in a domestic violence case. He sees us outside comes out and uses stolen baretta to the head to solve his problem.
It was a regular thing after that, people using a permanent solution to a temporary problem.
Only was sad about one of them, Pearl Harbor survivor who never got over the fact he lived and the others died.
I was a block away on a Sunday morning, I held his hand and tried to comfort him as he tried to tell me something, or was he speaking to someone else?

  6. You hate your life so you create a fantasy about how the other sex lives. After saying the right things to enabling medical professionals your body is first poisoned by blockers and foreign hormones then irreversibly mutilated to become what you fantasize, and nothing changes. You still hate your body but now you have no chance to go back to status quo ante, your new body is a permanent situation. Suicide ends their pain.

    1. "...(they) hate their life"

About says it all. Nothing in the secular universe changes that.

  7. Gender dysphoria is a mental illness. Mentally ill people do irrational things...including committing suicide. Instead of
pumping these poor people full of hormones and then carving them up with a scalpel they need appropriate psychological care and support. For some that would include time in a mental institution. Sadly America decided to close most of them starting half a century ago as a response to a Hollywood movie that emphasized the negatives of such places while ignoring the benefits. Now these people are left to try and deal with serious mental diseases on their own.
