3-D printed 9mm video

A guy "running" one at a Falling Steel Match. 2.5 minutes long. No dead-time.

PLA resin is one of the industry work-horses and is not the most expensive resin.

  1. I'm going to make the same comment twice, on two different posts. I have never 3D printed, but in this video on strengthening 3D printed parts at the 2 minute mark he demonstrates making PLA parts much stronger by applying super glue to them. It seeps into the gaps in the layer lines and glues the layers together. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AExrJ_Y4t64

  2. I've also wondered about using gongs of the right size as SAPI plates for body armor.

    1. Real plates? Yes but...
The cheap plates often sold as "rifle rated" definitely not.
Most plates sold for target use have a 50 or 100 yard minimum range.
Any steel plate is going to break up the projectile, so you need a coating to reduce or contain the metal shards and shavings.

    2. Would Rhino Liner work? Or Dip it or Flex Seal?

    3. AR 500 plates are currently ONLY 65 dollars. Is your time, budget and life worth less?

Gee, I've seen tested duct tape and foot square ceramic floor tiles tested successfully for 5.56mm and 9mm.

You really wanna go that cheap and risky?

    4. More concerned about no paper trail than cheap.

  3. "Veeeerrrry interesting" he said, rising from behind the potted plants. (I just extremely dated myself!)
Agree with the 9mm, I can see you're roaming in PDW territory, not going to argue the distinction.
As others, I didn't consider the high tech printing, thinking it was out of reach of the CC population. I am...intrigued. Even more so after visiting the shooter's website.
I won't mention that it looks like the inside of that receiver can be milled out to install add'tl parts. Don't know how it would hold up long term though. (grin)
I definitely would thread the muzzles of a couple of those barrels. and buy several more boxes of sub-sonic ammo. Just sayin'.
