Waiting for the other shoe

Does anybody else have a sense of waiting for the other shoe to drop?

NATO and US inventories of "smart weapons" depleted and five-to-seven years to bring inventories back up IF we stop shipment to Ukraine.

China sabre-rattling over Taiwan.

US men of an age to provide military service are too fat, too stupid, too drugged-up or too masculine or too emotionally fragile to serve.

US to magically reconstitute herself into a manufacturing powerhouse overnight because "robots". I spent many years working around robots. They come with limitations.

Meanwhile, Mother Nature continues to do her thing.

I hope I am wrong.

On a more humorous note

I had my teeth cleaned this morning. Stephanie, the dental hygenist, is a chatty one. She told me that she started taking music lessons now that they are empty-nesters.

That is when Dueling Banjos floated to the top of her play-list.

It was the first time I had my teeth cleaned in 8 minutes and 23 seconds.

  2. $124 worth of canned goods at Aldi got tucked away in the shed today for some unknown reason. I don't know what 'feelings' you're talking about?
Incidentally, don't forget fruits and things for kids that are high in VitC, if you're not an apple-sauce canning whiz like our host. I never met a little one that won't eat those mandarin orange slices in a can.

  4. Even if we win this election it's over. There are as many turds in the punch bowl now as there are oranges. There is no one alive now that will see the end of this and any hope for restoration is a fantasy. It took a thousand years for Western Civilization to return to the level it was at when Rome fell apart and there is no reason to think this time will be any different. In fact due to the destructive technology available it will probably be far worse. ---ken

    1. Maybe it's just me but even a single turd in a punch bowl is one too many.

  5. ERJ, I am waiting as well.

The reason? Honestly, it just feels like the leadership keeps writing checks they cannot cash when they will have to. I struggle to think of a time when I had less confidence in the leadership of this country than I currently do. I am drawing a bit of a blank.

  7. We've had that feeling for a while now. I canned extra tomatoes this morning in spite of not feeling well because the feeling is getting stronger as winter and the election get closer. I'm doing what I can, but it doesn't feel like it will be enough.

  8. German police detain Ukrainians allegedly selling U.S. stinger missiles. Journalists from Hamburg and other cities have already found out that the weapons were intended for the Kharkov counteroffensive, but ended up on the European black market.

  9. Nothing new about the rapid usage of ordnance when things get hot. Think of it as a good wake cup call. The usage will clean out the near use by dates, reveal problems, think US torpedoes WWII, and provide a opportunity for the armed forces to make more realistic predictions of future usage. Ole Grump

  12. Well we know that aside from their nukes Russia is NOT a threat to the US. As for China....they have a lot of boots in uniform and a fair bit of hardware. The question is are they actual warriors. The last time they tried it the Vietnamese gave them a pretty good bloody nose.

  13. It feels like watching a bad storm coming in. You don’t know if it will hit your house, or spare you and maybe do some damage up the road.
We are as ready as we can be. I hate the thought of losing electricity, since the lack of power makes everything harder to do. We lose power once or twice a winter, so we’re prepped for it. But it’s still a pain.

    1. Lots of folks are prepped to lose power for a few days to a few weeks. But what happens when it doesn't come back on at all and there's no more fuel to run the generators? Not many folks are ready to live like they did in the 1800's, except the Amish.

    2. Absolutely right. When we were younger, and had more stamina, it was easier to deal with.

  14. If your girl is learning to finger pick the banjo, then maybe that was the secret of the speedy cleaning. Or if she can pick plaque at the speed Earl Scruggs could pick strings, she was moving slow. Either way, having a personable DH is nice.
