State Rights

At first blush, it looks like the Executive Branch of the Federal Government is issuing "Guidance", sometimes strong guidance, and letting the States figure out how it applies in their own, unique circumstances.

I think that is a wise move.

California will have one set of solutions. Washington State will have another. Nevada might have a solution that is only executed in the Las Vegas metro area. Maine is different than Connecticut is different than Maryland is different than Georgia.

  1. Sounds good, but it seems they are all making the same horrible decisions.

    1. Yes, and our ability to "repurpose" Whitmer and Nessel are much greater than our ability to reach down into the Federal deep-state and make corrections.

I was in Chubby's in Springport, Michigan shortly before they were shut-down. There were five customers in the joint. The owner was steamed that they were being shutdown (except for take-out). I am not sure it will hurt them as much as they fear. The old guys who drink free refills of coffee won't be there all morning but I think the locals will still buy their subs.

We will know far more in two weeks than we know now.

  2. Trump's 'Do your own thing' advice was also given on the subject of pursuing medical equipment and support, telling states that they might be able to get things faster by pursuing them independently, and that they should check on this in parallel. Of course, this has been met with cries of outrage that the Trump is telling them they're 'on their own'. One wonders what the taxpayers of big-government states with "Departments of Everything" are wondering when it comes to understanding their value-for-money equation. But a government that would use a pandemic to score cynical political points is the very definition of unserious.
