Woodchucks

In normal times you would see a three feet of exposed dirt.
As reported earlier, we have had so much rain that the water is sheeting across the top of the ground.

In most cases, woodchuck holes (dens) are filled to the brim.  They are taking refuge in brushpiles where they can find them.  Otherwise they are easy meat for the coyotes.

This is not a good week to be a woodchuck or any animal that relies on ground dens for security.
