Fine Art Tuesday

Bob Rose currently lives on the West Side of Lansing.

He asked if he could "decorate" the Men's Room at Harry's Place.

Management agreed.

Harry's Place is on Verlinden Avenue across from General Motors Lansing Plant 6 was. Lansing Plant 6 made all of the bodies for Oldsmobile for the last seventy years of Oldsmobile production.

One of the delights of this work is Bob's attention to detail. Near the center of the door, there is a "dorito chip" with an expression of surprise. It is where a coat-hook had been ripped out and Bob worked the three dimensional holes into the mural.

Oldsmobile introduced one of the first over-head valve, high-compression V-8s in the early 1950s. It was marketed at "The Rocket V-8" so Bob worked rockets into the murals, lots and lots of rockets.

According to Hugh, one of the owner/managers of Harry's Place, Bob Rose enjoys doing this kind of work.

If you have some surfaces you want decorated in this style, give Hugh a call and he will pass the word to Bob.

  2. That reminds me of Mad Magazine! Too cool.

I had a 64 Olds Starfire. The engine was almost 11:1 compression, 394 cid, huge Rochester four barrel carb. It only drank high test, and one station in the area had it. I paid 1.25 a gallon when regular was 70 cents.

  4. I was the happy owner of a 98 Olds Intrigue GL with the Autobahn package. Stuck to the road like it was glued there. Finally gave it up at 250,000 miles when the transaxle went. I still miss that car.
