Many of the scenarios presented in the book (The Ugly American) seem outlandish and implausible, so the authors included a factual epilogue at the end, showing the reader that, in fact, most of the book derives its inspiration from real-life events. For instance, one of the most seemingly unrealistic parts of the book comes in chapter two, when a Russian agent has bags of rice, which have been donated by the U.S. government, stenciled with the words “This rice is a gift from Russia.” Because it was written in Sarkhanese (Vietnamese), and none of the Americans present could read Sarkhanese, the Russian deception worked. This scenario, which seems made up, was actually inspired by a U.S. shipment of tractors whose doors were painted with a hammer and sickle by the Communists, leading the recipients of the tractors to believe that they came from the U.S.S.R.
Unaccompanied Minors
Unaccompanied minors from Central America are a moral dilemma for me, a conservative Christian.
I object to the laws on the basis that they are perverse and encourage unChristian behaviors like the break-up of families and dependence on institutions rather than God.
From the conservative side, the entire show seems designed to mint Progressive voters.
On the flip side, the minors are humans, they have souls and they are in-need.
What if...
What if a few conservatives worked at these relocation camps? What if we wore our MAGA hats and were quiet examples of 1950s vintage manliness in those lunatic asylums, at least until they fired us.
A typical "Advocacy Group" photo. 21 women, 2 men. Average age of about 27. |
What? Only two genders? Kidding aside, there are about three males for every female. Source of data. |
So what would be analogous to stenciling rice bags "With love from Russia"?
Maybe getting a part-time job at one of those facilities and just being who we are. I think we would resonate with most of the young men in these camps.
I can understand your wanting to help these minor children at the border. But we would do better to send them the fuck home. They are unwanted here. I will tell YOU the same thing that I told my family members who think that everyone who shows up at our border should be let in- IF YOU WANT THEM HERE, GO GET THEM AND PUT THEM UP IN YOUR HOUSE. Permanently. WE don't want them and don't need them. If you are not willing to house, feed, and support them then give them some food for their trip home. Heartless ? How about their parents who abandoned them ? BTW, this will probably will become moot when our economy crashes and we start to see a massive die-off. Even without a near certain crash, we already have millions too many illegals and freeloaders here.
ReplyDeleteChange my mind.
Our chance of getting a job in one of those camps is nil. If we in any way "flew the flag", we'd never get an interview, and if we did it once hired, we'd be out, and possibly arrested for some cooked up charge, on the spot.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard our illegal immigration situation called a moral dilemma before, but I think that's a good point. Most of these people are decent human beings looking for a better life-how American can you get? But I have a problem, since the first thing they're doing is breaking our laws.
I think our best move is to vigorously enforce our immigration laws as written. Illegals go back, no matter where they are caught or how piteous the story. It will eventually slow the flow and hopefully persuade them to do it the right way. Of course, this would require backbone, and it seems the USA as far past Peak Backbone.
Yes to the comments. My give-a-shit has been entirely consumed worrying about the harm these intruders cause to what's left of my country. Intruders can have what charity or goodwill is left over, which isn't much right now.
ReplyDeleteAnd +1 to getting to keep some of these illegals yourself, if you won't return them to whence they came, you get 'em. Don't "be a Christian" on someone else's dime.
(continuing from above) That sounds nasty, and I didn't mean to be nasty to you.
ReplyDeleteBut, I am beyond having my last nerve stomped on with this kind of thing. Can we just one single solitary time have some compassion for the other victims in this, which is the US of A and her citizenry? Even just one time?
Unaccompanied minors from Central America are a not a moral dilemma for me, an agnostic curmudgeonly US veteran.
ReplyDeleteThere should be an imposing wall, minefields, and enough drone and other electronic surveillance to make it near impossible to come into the country illegally across that border. I wouldn't break a sweat if irregular militias patrolled with ROE's that allowed deadly force on the coyotes bringing them across. Anyone caught trying once should be immediately dropped back on the other side. If they made it here unaccompanied, they can make it back home unaccompanied. Second offense punishments should be severe enough that there are no third offenses.
I suspect that that kind of policy, made public and strictly followed, will end the practice of sending your unaccompanied children to the US border for illegal entry in very short order.
These people are not our responsibility, and we need to quit acting like they and the rest of the world are. Right now, the US is being played for the biggest sap around. Breaking into my house doesn't make you part of the family.
People whose personal beliefs have a problem with that need to take their charity south of the border (assuming that will help) and quit imposing the costs on all the rest of us taxpayers.
Of course, the odds of that happening are zilch.
DeleteSo what I predict will happen is that there will be a backlash against hispanic youth, because everyone will assume they are illegals. And that the young males are gang members or gang members-in-training. And the young females are sex-trafficked. And all treated accordingly.
It will be a disaster for a lot of young legal hispanics. And another social trainwreck for the illegal ones. A hundred years from now, we'll be wondering why allowed this to happen, in the same way we regret bringing Africans over to be slaves.
