The cost of mandated "Gender Affirming" medical procedures

We are well down the slippery-slope of mandated "Gender Affirming" medical procedures.

We arrived here through the cantilevering of assumptions.

  • Mental health is the full equivalent of physical health
  • All mental and emotional maladies demand the full unlimbering of the medical arts
  • "Gender Affirming" procedures are a form of birthcontrol and access and insurance coverage is protected by law in many places
  • Blah, blah, blah, blah.

One of the unhinged portions of Obamacare is that groups commingled and various populations could not be partitioned into pools with different risk characteristics.

Under Obamacare, a healthcare plan for a monastery filled with 80 year-old monks was required to pay into the pool that paid for abortions and birth control.

What does "Gender Affirming" cost?

Hormone can be as inexpensive as $20 a month but most run about $300 a month.

Facial reconstruction can easily hit $40,000. Remember, Emotional Health is the full equivalent of Physical Health and...

Metoidioplasty runs about $50k.

A functioning pecker costs $300k for a "name" surgeon to construct.

A "vagina" costs only $50k unless the patient "needs" cosmetic work done to make the exterior look like original equipment and that adds another $10k.

A Hysterectomy is only $10k

Other surgeries that are fashionable are hair removal, non-breast implants, tracheal shaves or liposuction.

Totting it up, $3600 per year for 25 years for hormone tweaking is $90k. Averaging a median menu of male=>pseudo-female and female=>pseudo-male, the average is somewhere in the ballpark of $150k. Adding the two together gives us roughly $240k.

If 4% of the population "discovers" they are transexuals and need to transition, then that translates to a cost of $30k for every US household, albeit not all in a single year.

Under-funded Public Sector pensions and healthcare plans

I have not seen any discussion regarding the impact that the additional burdens of "Gender Affirming" therapies will have on the balance sheets of public pensions and the additional funding absorbed by medical coverage.

Picture in your head "Betty" who went to work for a large, legacy city Fire Department at the age of 18 as a helper in the office. Contracts may have been written to allow firefighters to retire after 25 years of service. It is, after all, an arduous and risky profession. Perhaps that early-retirement benefit was also extended in later contracts to include all personnel who worked for the Fire Department, including Betty who filed paperwork.

Betty retires at the age of 43 and the legacy city not only pays her pension for those years but also pays the premiums for her and her family's healthcare insurance for the 22 years before Medicare kicks in.

Might that additional $30k obligation per insured household be the straw that breaks the camel's back? It depends much on how the actuarial math works out.

  1. Definitely not cheap, and that's BEFORE they try to 'detransition'...

    1. Which LOTS of them will, eventually.
Remember, these costs don't include extra care for the inevitable and not often discussed side effects or the drugs, ranging from allergies and exzema to fibro myalgia and a host of other issues.

    2. And life-time mental health therapy when all of the procedures don't make them "happy".

  2. Then you can afford the extra 30K for insurance.

  3. There is a solution to both the initial, and the continuing annual, expense of supporting and maintaining such excursions outside of the Realm of Reality. Last time I had occasion to check, it was about $22 for a package of 50 doses, with appropriate discounts for larger quantities.
