Questions and pictures

Donald J or Don Jr? Who is more electable?

If Modern Monetary Theory advocates believe in MMT, then why is it necessary to tax people who work for a living?

Is it really about guns and mass shootings or is it about killing the filibuster and then packing the Supreme Court?

If the government levies special taxes on petroleum products because "they are too profitable", will the prices go down?  Note that oil companies are forced to post the increase in value of the product they have in-transit as profit. Will those taxes be returned to the oil companies if/when the cost of a barrel of oil drops?

State of the patient

I can walk with one hand on my walker. That makes carrying things much less complicated. Hither-to-for I had to move an item like a cup of coffee the distance of my wingspan and deposit it on a horizontal surface. Then move my body then another wingspan move of the items in question.

I had a bucket brigade of items on the kitchen counter. Some moving toward my official blogging chair and other items heading back to the trash bin in the kitchen.

Another big milestone is that I dared to take a shower yesterday. It was my first since the accident. Cleaning with a washcloth is OK but it leaves a soap-film because I cannot seem to rinse aggressively. The soap build-up was particularly noticeable on my hair.

  1. When I was a kid we used to call them peurto rican showers - dunk your head under the bathroom sink and lather with shampoo, rinse.
Took a few tries to get the technique, but works wonders when you don't want to wear a hat.

It has never been about guns or mass shootings in the sense of being concerned about gun violence. Notice that they never talk about the other hundreds of mass shootings every year that are committed by the wrong demographic using the wrong firearm (illegally obtained handguns)

It is all about disarming regular people, both literally via confiscation and also figuratively by expanding the Supreme Court to be a rubber stamp for whatever nonsense they want to push.

  3. The picture is lovely - again, congratulations.

Why taxes? It is the great question that MMT seems unable to answer, except as the punitive measures. And control of course: even in most recent round of "Fuel prices are too high", the offer is never to reduce state or Federal taxes, only offer up rebates - thus, the overall control is maintained.

In terms of electability, I think the Red Party has to decide if they really want to win and then pick the candidate that is most likely to do so. The issue with the two candidates presented as potential options is that both, while commanding name recognition and have a strong base, also have a lot of animosity as well: people will vote simply to vote against them. That is not a plausible path to victory. Given the current state of the things, this should not be a hotly contested election - nor should the California recall have been hotly contested, until opponents were able to latch on to someone to vote against (Larry Elder, in this case). Someone with a strong record on economics given the current situation (and the one we will likely be in for the coming period) would be a good idea.

Congratulations on the shower. That must have felt good. That would be one the things that would drive me crazy. It is certainly not a requirement to living, but it is a luxury I enjoy.
