Fine Art Tuesday

Mourning the Master (Dead Miner)
Charles Christian Nahl born in Germany in 1818, lived the last half of his life in California and died 1878.

Saturday night. Looks like a miner getting hooched-up and about to be cheated by the buyer.

Sunday morning in a mining town. Nahl painted several of these "busy" paintings in his life where he captures much activity in a compressed space.

  2. I knew the paintings but not the artist.

The last one is one of the most famous paintings in terms of the California Gold Rush.

    Thank you as always.

  3. Excellent artwork. Very Not politically correct, but maybe that's why I like it? I recall looking at Currier and Ives illustrations when I was a little tyke. I learned some history at an early age by pestering my parents about the details of the scenes.
