I have watched a dog at play run full steam right to the edge of a cliff. At the last moment, the dog veers away. I have seen that several times so I deduced that dogs have no concept of time.
Yet here we see the dog squarely contacted the young boy. The boy moved nearly three feet in the time the dog leaped from the ground until he came down onto the boy. Certainly the animal must have been able to compute distance over time.
