Silence is Golden

My youngest sister turns fifty this month.  She is the one who organizes the parties, mixes the punch, bandages the wounds and washes the dishes.

Today was her day.  A surprise party was held in her honor.  Many of her neighbors attended.

I was sitting near one of them when the subject turned to insurance.

I got the impression that her neighbor is a "Visiting Nurse" of some type.  Her primary job became part-time shortly after Obamacare became law.  She cannot make it on 27 hours a week.  27 hours only pays her mortgage so she now has a second job.

I suspect that she thought her life would improve when everybody was covered with health insurance.  She is a nurse, right?  What could go wrong?

But her life really sucks.  She has to buy her health insurance out of her own pocket.  Her two jobs are on two different shifts and sometimes they occur on the same day.  She is tired, stressed, jet-lagged and not-quite-making it.

She blames corporations....they are all a bunch of greedy bastards.

In honor of my sister, I kept my mouth shut.

  1. Reality is hitting home for a LOT of folks now. Costs are just one of the issues... The cut in hours and pay is the REAL bottom line impact, and that is spreading across the country. When you add in the $15/hr push, it's going to get ugly, IMHO.
