"What we have got heah, is a failah to Lubricate" *

Mrs ERJ is fond of her remote garage door opener.

It was malfunctioning.

In short, it was binding and then reversing.

It is amazing what a bit of grease in the right places will do to slick things up. As a side-note, one of the polymer skid-plates in the block that skids along the rail may be missing. That should not be a problem if I lube the track annually.

While I was on the ladder I tightened up the chain, aligned the drive unit better and added some deck-screws to the horizontal two-bys that were supporting the power unit.

And once again, my name will be re-engraved in the Hall of Heroes.

  1. Here’s hoping that Mrs ERJ doesn’t square the circle and come to the conclusion that the source of the problem was that the candidate for Hall of Heroes fame didn’t keep up with the maintenance in the first place! ;-D

    1. My failure was to not put it on the calendar. I should probably pick my birthday week or something similar and make it a "tradition".

  2. I schedule lithium grease every 6 months. Keep the spray can at the garage door so if it shudders I use more.

  5. Lube the bearings on the rollers as well. Also include the axles the rollers are attached to, where they go into the garage door. The axles are set up to move in and out to make up for slight differences in the gap between the door tracks over their lengths. If the axles dry out, they won't move freely, and will cause the door to bind "just enough" to reverse the door.

I use OMC outboard motor grease on my screw-drive opener. It lasts for YEARS!

    1. Lower-unit grease has great corrosion resistance.

  6. I need to do that - my garage door stops a couple times when it's cold.
