On Wednesday, January 29th, 2025, at approximately 11:37am, two Eaton Rapids Police officers and the Eaton Rapids Fire Department responded to the 500 block of Lake St to investigate a possible violation of the city's open burning ordinance. Upon arrival, officers contacted a 44-year-old male subject. After initial contact the alleged suspect started a chainsaw and then threatened them with it. The officers tried de-escalating the situation by talking him into dropping the chainsaw. The suspect eventually dropped the saw and began to flee. The officers unsuccessfully deployed a Taser before he fled into his home, barricading himself in his bedroom.
Assisted by the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office, Charlotte Police Department and the Michigan State Police, officers entered the residence and after the alleged suspect refused to surrender, forcible entry to the room was made. The suspect resisted but was taken into custody without injury to him or the officers. The suspect was lodged at the Eaton County Jail. Charges are being requested through the Eaton County Prosecutors Office for felonious assault and resisting and obstructing an officer. (Source)
Some Karen probably thought she was doing Gods work when she called in the wisp of smoke she saw.
I am very glad I don't live in a city. Even dinky, little Eaton Rapids (population 5200) has too many people.
Update
500 Block of Lake Street circled. Fire-barn and Cop-shop in red square. |
Some background information.
I am thankful there are hive people that CAN tolerate rubbing elbows with other hive people. That creates sufficient population density to enable commerce. Not for me though.
ReplyDeleteI like the boondocks.
I wonder why the Karen is so mentioned when the idiot "Started up his chainsaw and threatened the police".
ReplyDeleteIf I came over to talk to my neighbors doing a burn, I'd respond really poorly to them threatening me with a running chainsaw.
As I don't know the fire rules in your area NOR the current Fire Threat the Karen might have overreacted in calling.
The idiot really overreacted. His troubles went from perhaps a warning or misdemeanor fine to felony threatening.
It's a high of 25F today here and everything that isn't frozen solid is wet.
DeleteI agree that the man over-reacted.
DeleteWe had snow on the ground a week ago.
Somebody had to call the "problem" in, the problem being that somebody was cutting wind-damage limbs up and (maybe) burning them.
The response MIGHT have been an over-reaction by sending cops along with fire department...unless the address was one of THOSE addresses.
As a retired firefighter from a decently large metro area I agree completely. We didn't need cops for a burn complaint, usually not even at one of "those" addresses. When the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. There's a reason firefighters can usually go places a cop would find dangerous.
DeleteDragonslayer is 100% correct.
DeleteAs EMS I understand requesting police support for some calls.
DeleteWe will not go into known problem situations with out the police support.
Idiots are everywhere.
BTW not all police are bad. Ours are good neighbors. Maybe because we the people in our area can have them fired for bad behavior.
Folks get the government they tolerate.

One of my younger brothers was a fire-fighter.
DeleteThey were on their way back to the barn from a call when they got a call "Cop shot". The were three blocks away.
It was dark. They saw what appeared to be a body in the middle of west-bound Edgewood Blvd, in the center of the pool of light cast by the overhead sodium vapor lamp.
He told me that it was the most difficult five minutes of his life waiting for the cops to show up to verify that the "scene" was safe and they could treat the victim.
The victim was the one of the two men who had shot the cop. The cop shot back and that one perp was dead, dead, dead. My brother called it a "guided by the hand-of-God" shot.
Whenever there is a cop-involved shooting, there is an internal investigation. The internal investigation, in this case, took 20 minutes. They cop had a bruised rib-cage below his shoulder blade where the perp's first shot hit and a bullet wound to his left buttock.
What's the going price of firewood in Eaton Rapids?
ReplyDeleteDoes the E.R.P.D. have a history of commandeering contraband farwood for um, personal use?
Chainsaw man night/may have been expressing a deep concern for KEEPING what he had already invested some effort in securing.
Let's chalk this up to cops that need a trip to charm school for a little refresher in working and playing well with others.

What's the difference between "open burning" and "using wood in my outdoor fireplace to cook food"?
ReplyDeleteBesides all the cop stuff, running chainsaws and Karens, I mean.
