I don't "get" the attraction of cauliflower. I suspect that some people are incapable of smelling certain chemicals in it, much like some people cannot smell the effect of asparagus on the smell of urine.
The first time I was offered a bowl of cauliflower soup (the hostess's pride-and-joy) I may have made a comment about dirty sweat-socks. I was younger and stupider back then.
Anecdotally, the sulfur compounds in all of the cabbage-family as well as the oligosaccharides can cause epic flatulence with extreme "fragrance" as well as very, very loose stools when consumed in large quantities. Cauliflower might be a high FODMAP food which is a train-wreck for people with Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Cauliflower pizza is a hard-pass for me. Thanks but no thanks.
It is the gluten thing. People think gluten makes them fat (and some people are legitimately allergic to wheat) so they think cauliflower pizza will be better. Gluten makes pizza delicious.
ReplyDeleteI agree. My mother was diagnosed as celiac after years of anemia due to the gluten reaction damaging her intestines. Cauliflower pizza is terrible, but is better than no pizza. And as far as my attempts with corn tortillas and rice flour? Well, those cauliflower pizzas were good in comparison.
DeleteYeah, I got the celiacs as well, so I’ve been avoiding gluten now for a while. I do miss pizza, and have tried the cauliflower crust ones, but it’s kinda like tofurkey in my experience, it’s just not the same. Play the hand your dealt.

Yech...
ReplyDeleteI can't stand any of the brassica family except cabbage (in small quantities). Cauliflower, brussels sprouts? Yech.
ReplyDeleteNot just the gluten, it attracts the low carb crowd. Even while it is killing us, everyone loves pizza.
