Quicksilver and I spent the morning together.
Our second stop was the new bookstore in Charlotte, Michigan; The Cozy Corner Bookstore. Miss Jennifer put the children's books in the northeast corner where the sunlight provides ample, natural light in the morning. It is a very cheerful space.
Most of the books are "classic" kids books: Goodnight Moon, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, Llama books, Bible Stories and books about farm animals and wildlife.
Miss Jennifer has dolls and sturdy, plastic animals for the pre-readers to play with while their older siblings are checking out books.
In addition to new and "pre-loved" books, Miss Jennifer has space that she rents out for book-club or other meetings. She also teaches yoga classes because physical fitness is one of her passions.

This store earned Quicksilver's Seal of Approval!
In this age of everything on line, I am reassured that someone has the confidence to open a new book store. Long may it stay in business.
ReplyDeleteShotgun, my fishing buddy, is a great fan of cigar stores. Yes, he can buy them for about half the price on-line but he goes for the conversation and the socializing.
DeleteI think "Miss Jennifer" is pursuing the same business model.
We were there for about forty minutes and for most of that time there were other walk-in customers.
All hail the local bookstore and those with the courage to open and sustain them. I am trying to make a conscious effort to buy small and local where I can.
