More importantly, this is what's known as a process crime. He wasn't found guilty of accepting illegal contributions, but of lying to the Feebs about accepting them. Moral of the story: Learn from Martha Stewart, for cryin' out loud. Never talk to any Fed without your attorney present.
Naturally, it all comes down to WHOM the DOJ decides to go after. Remember when Obama received literally hundreds of millions of dollars in campaign donations from foreign donors. It was absolutely known that these thousands of donations came from non-citizens of the US. And it was obvious that the Obama campaign knew this was so. And when it was pointed out to the FEC and DOJ, they had exactly zero interest in looking into it.
But here they decide to go after a long-term sitting Republican congressman for exactly ONE non-kosher foreign donation. A slap on the wrist coupled with being required to return the donation is what would normally suffice. But nope! Resign or we will destroy you. Unless the miscreant is a Democrat, in which case it would not have warranted even a first, let alone a second look.

How is it that a resident and Representative of Nebraska can be hauled into court and judged in California by Californians?
