September 1 was the start of early goose season in Michigan.
Kubota and three of his buddies harvested 23 birds yesterday. Amazed at the shear sheer number of the wary birds they shot, I asked what kind of camo they had been wearing.
"Plaid" is what Kubota responded. "And next time we are renting a golf cart because those birds are heavy!"
And that explains why their "bird dog" is a Border Collie.
Uneducated city boy question ERJ: What kind of geese?
ReplyDeleteLikely resident Canadas shot off a local golf course pond. At least that's how it's done here in Nebraska.

Canadian Geese.
DeleteRead about Canadian Geese. Their digestive system was described as primative as they poop every 7 minutes or so. Not hard to believe after walking around a lake in Alexandria MN. Up there for a wedding. Roger
DeleteWere the geese hit by golf balls, woods, or irons?

Bismuth or steel. Tungsten is a little pricey for Kubota.
Delete"....shear number of the wary birds..."
ReplyDeleteA percentage of the birds they brought back were already cut up? How did they fly?
Those Border Collies are pretty amazing. Even without opposable thumbs they can butcher game and drive hung-over hunters out to the course.
DeleteThose dogs are never happier than when they're working. Doesn't matter the job. They'd make great babysitters for a passel of kids at the park. Or hunters. Or sheep, cattle, maybe even cats.
DeleteWhat meat was harvested? Did they just take the breast meat or go for the full scald and pluck?
ReplyDeleteKubota is a man of few words. He did not share those details with me.
DeleteTHat's a bunch of geese!
