Fine Art Tuesday

Look at her toes. Marble. Water flowing over them. That is amazing detail work.

Giovanni Battista Lombardi born in Italy in 1822, died in 1880.

Ruth

Not bad for a bird-bath

Veiled woman. Executed in marble.

  1. Funny how you don't see such statues made in Africa or Arabia. Also, I have read that "abstract art" was a Communist plot to destroy Western culture - true?

  4. ERJ, having the good fortune to see some of the originals in Greece, I am only impressed all the more at this medium. The ability to coax detail from stone never ceases to amaze me.

  5. Not only that, but the proportions of the women are actually in line with what a healthy woman looks like. Not anorexic, not ridiculously ripped, not augmented with silicone.
    Real.
