Other "Super Crops"

United States range of Burr Oak.  Range extends up into Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

In no particular order

Burr Oak (Quercus macrocarpa) and its hybrids
Applecrabs like Centennial, Trailman and Chestnut  (Lucky, please feel free to comment)
Asian pears and its hybrids
Corn also known as Maize
American Persimmons

What does it take to make the list?  A wide range of adaptability and the ability to produce reliable crops under adverse conditions.

  1. I didn't realize we had that many... Not my area of expertise or interest...

  2. I'd add Kerr and Dolgo(parent of both Centennial and Kerr) to your list... and, Callaway, an ornamental crab that produces heavy crops of very tasty 1-1.5" crabapples - good for filling your pockets for munching, or for jelly.
