Fine Art Tuesday

Alexander Nevsky, the Battle on Ice scene by Sergei Eisenstein released in 1938 amid rising tensions in Europe between Stalin, Hitler and other leaders.

Two thousand heavily armed German invaders are defeated by irregular, local forces on April 5, 1242.

Run-time about 30 minutes.

  1. I first heard of this when reading Tom Clancy's book, Red Storm Rising.

    2. The link is to the battle. The entire movie is about 90 minutes.

    3. The helmets of the German foot-soldiers look suspiciously like the Nazi stahlhelm from above and the riveted bucket helmets of the knights liked like Nazi armored vehicles.

Danged commies didn't miss a trick. The Nazi and Stalin were allies (at the time) but neither trusted the other.

    1. Thank-you, sir. I am so glad that the nay-sayers and pessimists were wrong with regard to elections. I know we are not out-of-the-woods but I am still filled with hope.

  5. Simpler times. A clear invading force and enemy. We still have the instinct to fight for survival. But the battle lines have blurred and many hesitate to defend. So worried about being “othered” or labeled as extreme.

Don’t fight or you’re labeled and cancelled.

See it for what it is. When bellies go empty and the petroleum runs short, the flag will go up.

  7. Wheat! Blowing field of grain. Throwing babies into fire. I remember those scenes from 50 + years ago the first time I saw that film.
