Well, it's Tuesday so has anybody in NYC reported any discomfort yet?
I'm pretty sure the mass media will not report it until it's three days
ripe.
Any brave NJ readers available to do a research run into NYC?
Being curious, I dipped into the internet and saw that NYC was ALREADY experiencing food-shortages BEFORE the so-called trucker boycott.
This article from two-weeks ago informs us that NYC's Education system supplies about 900 thousand free meals a day to NYC students. That is one meal for every student. Great way to raise socialists: They give us food because we are poor and we NEED it. Even greater way to raise fans of the free-market, the most popular foods are unavailable but "Vegan Nuggets" are still available.
A $60 million November cut to the Education Department’s school foods
division forced the agency to chop a number of popular items, including
cookies, bean and cheese burritos, and roasted chicken, Chalkbeat first reported last month.
Middle and high schools with cafeterias that resemble food courts lost
chicken tenders, French fries, burritos, and grab-and-go salads
Socialism is awesome until you run out of other people's money.
As a frame-of-reference, 14% of Michigan Students are identified as "Special Ed". 13% of Detroit students are identified as "Special Ed".

My take-away is that the Socialists are doing a fine job destroying the delivery system. Maybe it is OK if truckers pull-back from the boycott. Better that the issue not be confounded. Better that there should be no other parties in-play that the Socialists can blame.
ERJ, I have seen conflicting reports today. On the one hand, I have seen that New York will be handing out cash cards of up to $10,000 per person. On the other hand, I have seen the mayor is threatening to "crack" down on the crisis.
ReplyDeleteI also saw an article that approximately 50% of New York residents are at or below the poverty level.
To your point, perhaps just standing aside and watching the edifice collapse is enough.
The school demographics graphic suggests that 76% of the students come from "economically disadvantaged" families.
DeleteI suspect that the high cost of housing is a large part of that. Single parent families are also a huge issue.
I assume that is 76% of *public school* kids.
DeleteI read recently that due to homeschooling and private schools for anyone who can, California's schools are down to 22% white.
I would expect to see similar numbers for NYC.

I would hope this trucker boycott last long enor to be painful. But somehow I doubt that will happen. I don't think enough truckers can afford to boycott their jobs long enough to make much of a dent in NY and it's needs. But I hope I'm wrong. Because New Yorkers need to feel more pain for the political choices they are famous for making.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if this is true or not, but: FWIW:

We have political excitement in Austria sometimes, too. Our chancellor stated that there are only two genders, and that caused a certain amount of uproar. He has not and probably will not retract the statement, which I find is a good sign.
ReplyDeleteHere are some headlines regarding the boycott, I can't tell if its smoke and mirrors or not.
