My dad and I made a small amount several times long ago. The Dimer is actually more unstable than the Trimer. Either way, very worthy of respect.
You can make it in a garage, but your gotta keep it cool and be very careful.
They call it Mother-Of-Satan for a reason.
My understanding is that modern methods can detect it.
The learning curve on TATP is rather sharp. It will eliminate a lot of sloppy chemist. You can detect the acetone functional group pretty easily though it was something big army was used to.
ReplyDeleteThat reminds me of a story of the farm I grew up on in Oklahoma. My uncle used nitroglycerin to blow up limestone bedrock for underground silos. This was back when everything was legal. He had a quart jar of nitroglycerin in the fridge in the dairy barn. It sat there for about years before he died. When his son took over, he built a new dairy barn. Eventually, they cut power to the old barn and it started sagging down. Nobody knew what to do with the nitro, and everybody was afraid to even open the refigerator door.
ReplyDeleteAbout the time I finished medical school, my cousin called Ft. Sill. They sent an EOD team out. When they heard that there was a jar of 30 year old nitroglycerin sitting in an unpoweered fridge in a broken down old barn they just asked if my cousin ever planned on using the barn. He said no.
So, they moved everybody away from the barn, and at the barn with an RPG. It was spectacular.
I wonihow many of those Maryland and Virginia searches were Federal government systems? It's my understanding that most government systems, especially defense and intelligence, "go public" through IP Addresses in those states.
