How soon before Law Enforcement starts carrying mini-EMP generators that can "wipe" smart-phones?
"And just-like-that, there were no more videos of LEOs doing their jobs on the street."
Ten second run-time
Jimmying the door-switch on a microwave oven and running it with the door open might work. Of course, it would be a little bit rough on people wearing pace-makers.
Unless it can be directional, it'd hurt the cops more with all the gadgetry they carry these days.
ReplyDeleteYagi antennas have about 30dB gain in a heart-shaped pattern
DeleteI thought I saw some ads, oh say a decade ago, for a handheld emp generator. Can't say for certain about that. But I can envision someone like bill gates building and selling something like that.
ReplyDeleteTakes a bot more than the microwave. It isn't hard, but it is a bit more complicated. Gotta get the rise time in the magnetic field to be pretty fast.
ReplyDeleteField strengtt is a issue if you wanna go more than a few yards.
There are plans floating around for this type of device. You would have to get within a few inches of the target for it to be effective. It uses an external coil with a large capacitor discharging through the coil very quickly.
ReplyDeleteThere are already USB "Kill sticks" and a simple adapter would probably fry a phone just fine, although it might not damage the microSD chip which can simply be shoved into another device if the phone recorded to expanded storage. All a cop has to do is plug it into your phone and press a button and to get your phone, they need only "detain" you.
ReplyDeleteCloud storage is a wonderful thing when it comes to preserving evidence. GPS/Cell/Wi-fi jammers are easy enough to import from China but that means your own equipment doesn't work either.
There are EPFCG devices or "Explosively pumped flux compression generator" but they are impractical. EMP also isn't going to fry anything without a large antenna attached to it. The electrical grid is a large antenna... so anything plugged into it will get a huge zap. I should store my old cell phones in an ammo can just so I have some backup music.
The only realistic way to do this without damaging other electrical devices...like their digitally programmed two way radios....is to put the targeted cell phone/camera INTO a box that is RF shielded and zap it there. Otherwise the damaging energy is to likely to harm other items.
