Kubota update

He wanted to go to work this morning.

I got a call fifteen minutes after dropping him off. The boss was kicking him out.

I can understand the boss's reasons. I used to supervise factory workers. If somebody comes in slightly "injured" and aggravates it on the job, then it becomes a recordable. Bosses are not doctors. Kubota will require a doctor's note to be allowed to come back to work.

Core charges

Kubota is also getting a schooling on core charges.

Kubota's buddies told him that Green Mamba* suspension parts were what all the coolest kids were running. So Kubota ordered Green Mamba parts.

Suddenly, an extra $300 disappeared out of his account. The follow-up was that he was dinged by core-charges for the steering gear.

Does he have the paperwork that came with the new unit? No.

Does he have the box to ship it back in? Maybe. Somewhere. He will look after the rain stops....on Thursday.

He went from on-top-of-the-world last Thursday to wondering how he is going to pay rent and vehicle payments this week.

Darwin awards

Have you ever noticed that nearly every Darwin Award used to start out with "The deceased and his good buddies had been out drinking..."? Maybe those stories became too commonplace so you need to step-up the stupid to win one now days.

"Stupid stuff" hurts. It is almost a definition. If you want to stop hurting, stop doing stupid stuff.

*I cannot remember the exact brand name. I used "Green Mamba" as a place holder.

  1. ERJ- Yes, I have had to send employees back home or even away after a minor work injury because I A) wanted them to actually heal and B) did not want them making the injury worse. I had to "convince" many of them this is the way it needed to be.

For the Core Charges, I think it never really sinks in until you cannot return something because you "lost" the original packaging or did not keep the receipt. If it is expensive enough, you only make this error once.

    1. Some of the pain is not earned.

He paid $250 for overnight shipping.

The company sat on the order for five business days before sending the parts over-night.

They are refusing to refund the $250 because they say they did ship it over-night.

    2. I hope he is making that little bit of f*ckry known in his social circle and on the message boards. Companies that pull those maneuvers should be punished.

    3. Not to pick sides, I do not have all the details, but if the company did ship it overnight shipping, they are due the charges.
I agree if they sat on the order for 5 days thats poor business, but did they say it would take 5 days to process the order, then normal shipping delays on top?
I looked at an online seed vendor last night, put my order of a dozen seed packets together, clicked on "estimate shipping charges", where I was greeted by a banner announcing 1-3 weeks to fulfill the order. So ground shipping (1 week) plus 3 weeks to fulfill means I'll just buy whatever the local nursery sells this year.
But I didn't get mad at the shipper nor the charges.

  2. We laugh at jokes like "stupid is supposed to hurt", but I see it more as a comment about society.
One of the ills befalling our country is the social safety net. If one had to go get a job to pay for a doctor to handle the pregnancy you had a part in creating, I would wager life would look very different today. There are many such examples. The social safety net we view as a good thing, has the opposite effect by removing the painful part that reinforces the lesson. Ergo lessons are not learned.
