Aunt Marie slipped her mortal coil

Aunt Marie slipped her mortal coil this past week.

Not only is she my aunt but she also has the distinction of being my Godmother.

She was cheerful to the end. Demented but cheerful.

The funeral will be Monday. Aunt Marie said that families get together for funerals and weddings, and while the family generally prefers weddings exceptions are occasionally made.

My mom remembers a weekly pilgrimage with her older sister Marie, walking to Saint Lawrence Hospital with an envelop that contained a few dollar bills. They were still the hospital for being born.

My grandpa was one of the lucky ones. He had steady work through the depression as a security guard.

Now my mom and dad are the last of their generation from their respective families.

  1. My condolences to you and your family. Hard to watch the end of a generation in a family. We are nearing that with my in-laws.

  2. My condolences as well.

My father is last of his siblings, and my mother soon will be.
