Things are very wet around here. The local rain-gages show 3.5" since March 28 but it seems like it has been more than that based on the run-off. Of course, the fields being nearly saturated before the 3.5" probably made a difference.
It will be cool enough that I can put the box on the front porch, out of the sun and they will keep until Wednesday |
The pear root-stocks showed up yesterday but I will wait until Wednesday to put them in the ground. And while I am waiting, I can graft 12 of them that are going into the Hill Orchard.
Buttoning it back up
Today will be spent painting and then moving furniture and clothing back into the spare bedroom. The goal is to have it done before Quicksilver is back.
While waiting for the sealer-primer to dry, I intend to move some of the tomato and all of the pepper seedlings into cell-packs.
Jobs in retail
With the stock-market dropping and tariffs kicking in, you have to wonder if some (maybe even most) low-premium, retail brands are doomed.
Lululemon, or Lululemon Athletics, is a brand that creates and sells athletic clothing, accessories, as well as lifestyle apparel. The company has become famous for its yoga pants and leggings, and you be hard-pressed not to see someone wearing a pair in any yoga studio or on the street. Apart from its products’ recognizable design and fit and feel, Lululemon is also known for its premium prices, with its yoga pants easily costing $100 and upwards. With Emma-Lee's mom watching her 401-k drop, it is hard for me to fathom that she would be eager to shell-out a C-note for a pair of tights when Emma-Lee already has one in every color.
And Luluemon is just one example.
Well before the "Trump Tarriff excitement" folks around here were pulling back on large purchases like vehicles, kitchen remodels and sadly some house repairs.
ReplyDeleteOn the plus side I have several handymen once too busy for small jobs eager to show up this week. That I have a habit of paying on the spot helps but when too many Credit Card BIG Jobs are around, they're too busy for a day's work.
Over extended people always do poorly when the economic tide shifts, like it always does every few years. The Biden folks just dumped fake debt "money" into the system for 4 years to look good while inflation (The Natural result of too much money chasing that loaf of bread) ran rampant.
Several good sources have noted well before Biden stepped off stage that some 40% of the US Economy was Gov.com driven. I.E. Debt driven as Gov.com produces nothing but consumes much.
Too much monetary heroin has to be flushed out of the system.
My concern is if the powers that be wanting to use the situation like they did during the exuberance of the roaring 20's to dump the Greater Depression on Trump and MAGA.
He IS breaking a lot of rice bowls and that's getting Parasites angry. Note I said parasites NOT Symbionts. Symbionts help the body while parasites live from the body, often destroying their host.
Odd how the Bible talks so much about debt, laziness and helping-caring for your own family isn't it?
Most of us have been 'guarding' our pennies for the last couple of years... sigh
ReplyDeleteI hear you. I found the hardest thing to teach my soldiers during my two plus decades of service was HAVE a AweShit Fund. Stuff is going to happen to your car and such. Put money away every month for known annual bills like auto insurance, don't overspend.
DeleteYou don't know how often as a young soldier I had a second job to keep my head well above water.
Even today retired twice I keep my hand in more for the fellowship of my peers than money.
Once your drowning it's too late for an easy fix.
Day trader here, watched it all real-time this week. Campbells Food. CPB. That was the winner. Campbells fricking soup, was the safe place to park your money. There's a lesson there...
ReplyDeleteDay traders are like the fish that dart in-and-out of the mouths of sharks and promote their oral hygiene.
DeleteI am not nimble enough or brave enough to do that.
I am sure the sharks appreciate the service...but it is not for me.
There is s great dea l of consumerism that needs to be flushed from the system.
