Not my best work, but not my worst, either

The three open spaces are approximately 48" by 29-1/4"
No, I did not choose the color of the walls. Tomorrow will see me filling in the rectangular open spaces and "mudding" the long seams.

Peach tree

I was at Menards today and this tree called my name. It is a "Contender" peach and was almost 6' tall and the price seemed reasonable. Contender is on the list for what I was going to plant in Southern Belle's orchard. Not having to graft it might save a year or two in terms of the tree starting to produce fruit.

  1. How do you keep deer from stripping the branches? My experiment with apple trees years ago failed because deer killed the trees.

    1. GREAT QUESTION!!!

I cut a 30" long piece from a roll of 2" by 4" welded, wire fence and make a tube out of it that is approximately 10" in diameter. I place it around the tree and tie it to the post next to the tree.

I had been using 48" tall fencing but found that I need to upgrade to at least 60" tall fencing.

  3. I wasn't shopping for a tree, but I did need at least 1 more pecan to get proper pollination. It wasn't like I went there shopping for a tree (I might have).... but the stalk was easily 3x the caliper of any of the other ones in that bin, and it _was_ a compatible pollinator. Its like God was practically telling me to buy it!
