I cannot answer for all immigrants, but in the case of Handsome Hombre*, his country of origin had very limited opportunities to work in his trade unless he was "connected". He was prevented from strengthening the economy of his native country because his identity was used to exclude him from "unions" and companies in cities.
In the United States, at least until very recently, employers did not care if you were black, white, brown, yellow or red. They did not care if you were Catholic, Protestant, Evangelical, Jew, Wican, Democrat, Republican or watched Sponge Bob reruns after work. They did not care if you were man, woman or other. They didn't care if you were tall, short, had six fingers or were legally blind. All they asked was "Can you do the job?**"
OK, it wasn't perfect that way. If you wanted to rise in management it helped if you graduated from the same University as the CEO and were a member of the same fraternity. But as a general rule, America was a meritocracy and that created opportunity that was denied elsewhere.
In American, all men who worked in the coal-mine were black and all men in the military bled red.
In India it MATTERS if you are Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, Jainist, Sikh, Bengal or Tamil. Your caste matters and so does your province of origin.
In Syria or Iraq, it matters if you are Sunni, Shia, Druze, Christian or atheist.
In Central America, the city you were born in and your "family" matter.
Even in Ireland, it still matters if you are Catholic or Proddy.
The Tragedy
The tragedy is that powerful forces are working to turn the United States into India by making identity politics pervasive. "Jew", "Redneck", "Trailer park trash", "Bible thumper", "Native American", "Xenophobe", "Islamaphobe", "Trans-phobe", "Cis-male", blah, blah, blah...
Identity first, and then merit if it gets discussed at all.
The Legal System
You can ask "What made America unique?"
America's legal system evolved from English Common Law while the legal systems in most other countries are either much more corrupt or are unholy hybrids of native systems and English Common Law.
Given the corruptness of the courts in places like Haiti where one parcel of property can have six owners, businesses do not become corporations but remain either family-businesses or have extremely narrow hiring criteria. It is an adaptive response to a partisan, rapacious and corrupt legal system.
*Applause for Handsome Hombre. He was recently sworn-in as a US citizen along with about 200 other legal immigrants. He is very, very proud of his new country.
Among the proudest American citizens you will ever meet are first-generation citizens who actually lived in countries where the game was totally rigged against the common man. And that would be most of the countries in the world.
Incidentally, the Judge who presided over the swearing in was Chief Judge Hala Y. Jarbou, herself a naturalized US citizen who was a member of a persecuted, religious minority in her country of birth. Her speech to the assembly was inspiring.
**I supervised a quality inspector who was legally blind. He found as many defects as inspectors with "normal" eyesight and inspectors who were down-line of him did not catch any more "leakers" than for other inspectors. Even though he was legally-blind, he was not discriminated against.
He would even have been allowed to drive vehicles as long as he had a valid Michigan Driver's License. But since Michigan's S-o-S doesn't issue Driver's Licenses to blind people, that never became an issue.

I expect that he will make the country BETTER, unlike most illegal immigrants, most of whom do NOT improve the country in any way.
Funny, innit? He is an *immigrant*, rather than an invader....and that makes all the difference.

ReplyDeleteBeing "legally" blind can be an advantage in some specific tasks like parts inspection, assuming the specific vision defect is more along the lines of "tunnel vision" and "nearsightedness" and not general loss of visual acuity.
ReplyDeleteMy former employer liked to hire blind folk for their IT support help desk -- they knew all the keyboard shortcuts so their per-call times were shorter since they'd tell the caller "Hit CTRl-SHIFT-W", press tab twice, then enter" instead of trying to talk somebody through how to mouse over to, then left-click on the correct tiny checkbox.

And you think it's just coincidence that white countries and white countries alone look like the US did before the non-white waves of immigrants? Have you never noticed that, on average, ideas embraced or rejected have an uncanny tendency to cluster along racial/genetic lines?

You Boomers tsk, tsking us much younger white nationalists for refusing to settle for abstractionist, bumper sticker slogan ideas ("there is only one race, the human race") rather than using God-given reason to question them, by actually looking at phychological studies, inter-racial crime stats, and other proofs of vast differences in AVERAGE intelligence, psychological traits (ethnocentrism, psychopathy, etc.) and embracing race realism (what many of you deride as "racism") as a result.
You are not true Christians: you are either de facto pagans, making a combination of the mores of a much whiter world and normie-con talking points about equality, color-blindness etc., into de facto gods, which like any god you do not allow the acid of reason to touch; or you are "Christian" Pharisees, utter hypocrites who sit in your lily white enclaves far beyond the financial of us younger men and pat yourselves on the back about how non-colorblind you are while the rest of us have to endure higher crime, diminished economic opportunities, AND your smug posturing.
Your like the rich young man who could not stand to part with his excess possessions to follow Christ. Let's have Eaton rapids and the other rich, white, boomerlands innundated with mass numbers of AVERAGE non-whites (starting with the Hatians you made alluded to) and then see if you can keep smugly lecturing on how good ideas and colorblindness are all we need, or if you then throw up your hands and admit that its people, not ideas who make countries sh#tholes.
Reason alone should be able to tell you that, while ideas to play an important role (e.g., communism can wreck white nations--though in the case of the USSR it was forced on them by on Russians: mostly Jewish leadership, Georgian/Latvian/Polish mercenaries, etc.) in men's affairs, the nation's problems are less a Dem vs Repub issue than a white vs non-white (and non-East Asian one: for just one example, check the crime stats of solid blue Maine and Vermont vs a Red Southern state with a large black population!
You make an ideology into a Moloch--that, by allowing immigrants with much higher crime rates than whites, is litterally consuming the lives of our people--then act like we're evil for calling for that false god's downfall.
Until you move to an area innundated by hombres or ask for Eaton Rapids to be swept beneath a brown tide--or, hell! for that matter write a story that actually matches racial reality: you make neonatzis, who make up an infinitesimal fraction of all criminals, the villain--then you are just the rich man (his dress marks him a Pharisee as much as his behavior does) eating your sumptuous house and wondering why why poor, white Lazarus out beyond his gates is ranting about the blacks and browns that keep threatening him with assault, robery, or worse.
Keep virtue signaling and casually dismissing the mountains of data showing huge racial disparities in terms of average IQ, temperament, and ideological inclinations, you bone-riddled white sepulchres, it will gain you nothing in the end.

DeleteI wouldn't talk about IQ unless you're prepared to cite a single study that proves that the black/Hispanic and white gap (the father of the gulf between first and third living standards) is not predominantly genetic. Go ahead, I don't give a darn what you think of me; I care only if you can actually refute my contention that the B/H and white IQ gap is both substantial and genetic in nature, or for that matter that Hispanics are not much more ethnocentric and ideologically leftist than whites. By the way, neither you nor ERJ--who, I must admit, does seem like a genuinely smart and decent fellow outside of his boomer colorblindness--have adressed how it is, if ideas and ideology rather than race and genetics make the most difference, that deep blue but lily white states such as Maine and Vermont have extremely low crime rates compared to red but much less white Texas, Louisiana, etc. Cut the childish name calling and give me an answer if you are capable.

Here's the thing - I've worked with, hired, and watched many Hispanics of questionable immigration status here in Texas. Some are hard workers, some are very skilled, and some are both. And, like any other group, many are neither. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to effectively winnow the wheat from the chaff. And, to borrow another old saying, we have reached the point where we are more than willing to throw that baby out with the bath water.

Think of it like a forest fire. If the forest floor is allowed to burn when there's only a little fuel it doesn't become a devastating crown fire. Unfortunately, there's a WHOLE LOT of fuel to burn off. By aggressively exporting the bad apples, that will remove some fuel. If the bad actors in government are quickly removed as they're exposed, the fuel for rebellion is reduced. The tree of Liberty must be nourished by the blood of patriots, it is it's natural manure...

English Common Law pays a great deal of attention to precedent and it takes new and compelling facts/evidence to decide in opposition of precedence.
DeleteDuring Obama, there were several decisions where at least a hundred years of precedence was overthrown.
One was during the bankruptcy of the City of Detroit. Precedence was that bond-holders were secure and had collateral pledged against their loans while employees were temporary and had less seniority with regard to being made-whole. The Detroit judge ruled that the employees were to be made-whole at the expense of the bond-holders.
I cannot pretend to fathom the reasoning of the judge in that case, but not everybody who invested in Detroit Muni bonds was a billionaire and not every employee of the City of Detroit was incapable of finding another job in the private-sector.
Another case was the Delphi bankruptcy where the hourly employees were "made-whole" with regards to their pensions and the "salary employees", including the mentally retarded guy working in the mail-room were zeroed-out in terms of pensions because...every salaried person was "management" or something.
Decisions are increasingly made on some intersectionality formula that calculates a Victimhood Quotient. Britain as a matter of national policy will now issue more severe prison sentences to white men because they are white, and because they are men.
Congrats to Handsome Hombre. It's a great achievement and worth celebrating.
ReplyDeleteI've found Judge Jarbou to be a very good judge since she was at Oakland County Circuit before she got called up to the Federal Bench - she's smart, does the work, and was always ready for a case and knew what was going on, and she makes reasoned decisions. I'd expect nothing less than an inspiring speech and meaningful ceremony from her.
America was unique not because of our English legal system, but because we were all Americans. The people make the place, and we made America what it was, just as Handsome Hombre's people made that country what he left.
