I went to the gym today

I had low expectations. I was not disappointed.

I was not able to complete my maintenance goals of warm-up and then four sets of six reps of dead-lifting my bodyweight.

The warm-ups went OK. My warm-up isn't very scientific. It is six reps of 135lbs (the bar + a 45 pound plate on each end) then six reps of 185 (the bar + a 45 and a 20 pound plate on each end).

I managed one set of six reps of my bodyweight and my glutes and hamstrings said "Enough".

I don't think the flu made me weak. I think the inactivity that went along with the flu did.f

I expect the stamina to come back quickly if I lift once every three days and walk on the other two days.

  1. Don't bet on it coming back. When you are getting old and you get hurt or sick you never get back to where you were before no matter how hard you try.---ken

  2. ERJ, maybe start with the bar as a warm up and then add weight. That is what I do.

  3. Yea, good plan ERJ. Go to a bar and get warmed up and add some weight. Then when spring comes start walking around again. ---ken

  4. Your strength will come back with your plan. I had to take most of December off due to a rotator cuff impingement. That was disappointing as it made me miss my goal of pulling 300 by my 69th birthday. After only two solid weeks (4 days/week in two splits) I PRed on my deadlift Thursday (285x3). One thing that has helped is following up my squats and deadlifts with heavy sets on the leg press and ham curl machines. In 10 months of lifting I have gained 12 lbs of muscle (total weight 180). Last year I could not have done the amount of daily farm work I am having to do this winter.
