The internet is back up

The internet is back on at Casa ERJ.

Cattle

I fed the cattle and then settled in to make sure the internet had survived my absence. -10F windchill makes windproof, insulated mittens a joy to wear compared to leather work-gloves.

I have to stretch out my hay. I expected a week per 800 pound bale but got five days. Today I took out 50 pounds of corn. I dragged it in a sled.

I will be in much better shape if the ice melts off the grass. My best guess, based on the folks who read chicken entrails for a living, is that the ice will be mostly gone by January 25. That means that on the 26th when we hope to ship-out the steer the ground will be mud.

One step at a time. Nine more days until the grass will be available.

Prometheus Lunge

One of my readers called me out on the billionaire I named "Prometheus Lunge".

That reader must be a fisherman from the upper-mid-West.

I want to add that Prometheus was the figure in Greek mythology who stole fire (and light) from the gods. They punished him by chaining him to a rock on a high mountain and having birds-of-prey peck his liver every day. In those days, the liver was believed to host all of the qualities we now associate with "heart".

The gods have no patience for those who nibble away at the prerogatives they believe are reserved for them.

Maybe it is blindingly obvious to everybody else, but there is one point I want to underline. The Progressives ALWAYS pivot when they sense they are losing an argument. They drag in everything including the kitchen sink.

In a sense, Jana is a much higher quality opponent than the typical Leftist because she will (mostly) stay on-topic. She lets Bob drill through the photogenic fluff of her boiler-plate fluff and get to the substance of the issue. Most leftists would not stand for that because they know that there is no substance beneath the frosting and lace of their arguments.

The take-away might be that we do not engage leftists in discussion unless we get them to commit that the discussion is not over until BOTH of us agree it is over. Otherwise, the one who pivots is conceding defeat.

Sadly, the American public's attention span is such that they never notice.

Other fiction

Still very much hand-to-mouth. There may be a piece tomorrow morning.

I discussed the difficulties in the next piece with Mrs ERJ. She said "Just write it. You have smart readers. They will forgive you if you are ham-handed in how you present it. They don't read you for your style. They read you because you offer content."

Congratulations to Donald Trump

Congrats to Donald Trump and his campaign on the resounding win in Iowa.

Speaking of Greek Tragedies, DJT is a fine example of people creating what they most fear.

The Left fears a disruptor like DJT. "Fear" is too soft of a word. They are TERRIFIED by disruptors like DJT. And the more they try to torpedo him, the stronger they make him.

Rumor is that Black Americans are looking at DJT and see the incarnation of the African folk-tales of Br'er Rabbit.

The irony!  The more they try to destroy him the more tightly bound he becomes to their destiny.

  1. Remember Phil Donahue. He was a master, as soon as anyone had a good counter point Phil changed the subject. Woody

  2. We had Herfords growing up, we also had a barn that they could go in when the weather got bad. Does the pasture that you use have any shelter? Or perhaps just a woodlot to block the wind?

  3. Guessing the amount of feed is always an issue, especially when hay is part of that. Quality and tightness of the bales always varies.

  4. "They read you because you offer content."

May I offer a slight addendum?

"They read you because you offer content well worth reading."

Yours is a daily read for me. Thanks for taking the time to do so.

  5. ERJ -Speaking purely from a Political Science point of view, the conduct of this campaign may cement in fundamental changes to the primary process. What this has demonstrated is that a popular primary candidate, if they can gain enough traction and take their campaign directly to their proposed constituents and completely bypass the primary debate process. What is more, the primary debate process becomes much less significant as it now is effectively second tier candidates attacking the front runner rather than actually making their case for why they are a better candidate.
