10 second run time
Pink peonies
I found a nice lady with some pink peonies that she was willing to take some divisions from and sell to me.
The only difficulty is that she lived on a busy, urban artery on the north side of Lansing.
She insisted on doing the digging. She was afraid that I might hurt myself and sue her.
As she was digging (slowly) she chattered away. I learned that she had walked the entire Appalachian Trail twice and that it took her less than two hours. I learned that she had worked in a zoo and had worked in recycling.
She told me that she was very, very old (68 y-o!). For some reason it was important to her than I know that she was exceptionally old. She also told me that she went to the gym three times a week. Did I mention that she told me she was old?
She also told me that she had two people die in her front yard this past summer.
Some jerk was attempting to outrun the po-po at four-in-the-morning and lost directional control of his vehicle. He ricocheted off of a utility pole (right side of image), encountered a large landscaping rock and then the vehicle rolled until it came to a stop.
The driver survived to flee on foot but two of his four passengers died at the scene. At least one of the passengers was ejected from the vehicle and immediately slapped into the ground by the vehicle.
"Alcohol and speed appear to be contributing factors," Lansing Police said in a statement.
The rest of the Appalachian Trail story
She walked the entire width of the trail. That is, from one side of the trail to the other and then back.
Idle curiosity
I bet I could put a trail cam up by the road in front of our house and get a count on the number of vehicles that go by in a day. My guess is that it is less than 400.
---Note to self: Trail cam installed at the end of the driveway at 8:30 a.m. EST Sunday October 26 to be retrieved 8:30 a.m Tuesday. That way I will get one weekend and one weekday volume.---

That old lady enjoyed someone LISTENING to her.
ReplyDeleteGood job helping to keep Lansing civil.
Random "Oh my!" in my best Dorothy (from Wizard of Oz) was all the encouragement she needed.
DeleteI jumped off a 200 foot AM radio tower without any injuries whatsoever. Well, I was on the last rung, about 3 feet off the ground...
ReplyDeleteShe sounds like a corker...
