ERJ, I was thinking I might have to upgrade but by some kind of fluke I have at least 3 more years of Window 10 updates. Given the amount I use my computer any more, it is hard to justify upgrading unless I have to - and even at that, I may to become sufficiently IT aware to do something other than Windows 11.
At this point, the release on this laptop is a real battery killer. It doesn't shut-down until 4% and it is very busy even with the device closed and the screen off. Win 10 wouldn't eat battery even when the laptop was closed for days.
For security, I never register a Microsoft account when I start up Windows for the first time. This prevents MS from spying on everything I do. It's more difficult with Win11, involving some DOS commands in a special window, but the process is shown in detail in several good YT videos.
A year ago my desktop had problems. I had the IT guy at church install Linux instead. It hasn’t been without some challenges, like learning to use Open Office after years of Microsoft Office, but I no longer have to pay for antivirus and I’m in control of what data I share with the world. I was really surprised how much free software is out there actually… and it’s not as clunky as i expected. I was pleasantly surprised how similar to windows I is.
