Roadtrip: After Action Report

The mission had a very slender profile. Wake up. Get in van. Pick up our "client". Transport him to kick the tires of a vehicle. Follow him home after he bought it.

Street food in Luxemburg? Who would have ever guessed?

While the client was on a test-drive, I bought a burrito from a food truck.

I opted for the Carne Asada. It didn't have the amount of chilies that Handsome Hombre's does but it was delicious.

In retrospect, gobbling down "street food" before getting into a vehicle for a seven hour drive was not smart. But I got away with it.

Then I wandered into the cheese store next door and sweet-talked Kelsie into letting me take some pictures.

She good-naturedly consented after I told her that I was going to post them on social media. She helpfully supplied this brochure, too.

On the way home, I was impressed with the number of church steeples in Milwaulkee. I had time to admire them as it was stop-and-go traffic on US-43 Southbound.

The brick is bright red and was spectacular when viewed from the north-west at 4:30 local time on a sunny June 6.

I just learned that you can change the "camera angle" on Google Street View. Who know? This is looking up at the church.

The spire and steeple on the Calvary Presbyterian Church was particularly "in-spiring", a pun which made Mrs ERJ groan.

Another thing that caught my eye, again because we were in stop-stop-go-stop traffic was the Microsoft Data Center just east of US-294 at mile marker 34.25.

Google street View. Normal people don't take pictures of Transformer farms of military targets on their vacations. We use Google Street View.

The large transformer farm directly feed from the high-voltage transmission lines is what first caught my eye.

The second thing that caught my eye were the massive refrigeration units that carpeted the roof of the structure.

That is a lot of tons of refrigeration
Mrs ERJ and I made a stop at the New Buffalo, Michigan exit on the way back and the gas station and McD's were SLAMMED. Vehicles were lined up on the street and everybody was dressed like they were going to the Oscars. I don't know what that was about but the staff and McDonalds was hammered at 9:00 PM local time.

  1. To bad you couldn't have done the full circle trip back through the UP & back home. That would have been a great road trip.

  2. Photography is not a crime.

If you can see it from the street you are legally able to take a picture of it.

It my be deemed "suspicious", but that is also not a crime.

  3. Nice update, and yes, some of the church steeples are 'odd'...

  5. Been a while since I was in MI but was the ferry not an option? Anything to avoid driving through Chicago.
